04(06): An unexpected appreciation for my piano arrangement of “The Road Ahead”

What a pleasant surprise to receive this in my inbox (see the following attached screenshot of the email correspondence that has been partially redacted).

Yishun Health (consisting of Khoo Teck Puat Hospital 邱德拔醫院, 90 Yishun Central and Yishun Community Hospital) had their Teachers’ Appreciation Day on 1 March to demonstrate their thanks for the indispensable role that the medical, nursing, and allied health faculty play in the clinical education of our nation’s future doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals. These events are useful reminders to never take our clinical educators for granted.

On a personal note, I am grateful for the many senior medical students and doctors I have encountered along my medical journey who have pointed out the gaps in my medical knowledge. Many encounters were uncomfortable and unpleasant. Nevertheless, is it not only through at least some degree of discomfort that one can grow?

Comfort and growth cannot coexist.

Isn’t that what the notion of “leaving one’s comfort zone” alludes to?

Anyway, just being able to play on the ivories for the event was a double reward unto itself. I am glad I could be a part of the event.

To the Teachers’ Appreciation Day Organisation Committee, thank you once again for the kind words. I look forward to being involved in similar events in the future!
